Collective HER-story, A Mosaic Masterpiece: Exploring the Carey C. Shuart Women's Archive

Houston and Texas women have always been at the forefront in forging their paths and telling their own stories. Refusing to accept the status quo or to let others define their place in society, they have told us their stories in every area of endeavor. Through their struggles for equality in the suffrage and feminist movements, through their triumphs in political appointments and philanthropy, through their artistic works and expression, through their achievements in science and education, and through their spirituality and communal support, they have continually redefined what is possible in all areas of life.

This exhibition explores the collections contained within the Carey C. Shuart Women's Archives, highlighting the contributions that women and their organizations have made in Houston and Texas history -- ranging from women's suffrage and feminism, to business, politics, education, and the arts. Each of their individual and unique stories adds to the complexity and beauty of the mosaic that has been assembled over time.
